HTML5 Continues to Gain Browser Support

HTML5 has been a work in progress for what seems like forever now. But the good news is that it's increasing its browser support pretty well right now.

My favorite browser, Google Chrome, has had some of the best support for HTML5 for a good few months now, possibly over a year. All the others are increasing their support as well.

Still, none of the 5 standard browsers fully supports HTML5. Yet.

HTML5 will be great once it's a full standard. Because HTML5 will add some "a little goes a long way" to coding and help with a lot of other browser matter as well.

I'm going to rank each browser in their current support for HTML5 based on what I've read on W3Schools:

1st place: Google Chrome
Like I said earlier, Google Chrome indeed has great HTML5 support, perhaps the best of all the 5 standard browsers. It supports a great many of the most useful features, like the video and audio, local storage, many of the tags, and has been gaining more and more support for the HTML5 form elements and attributes in recent months. In other words, catching up with Opera on the HTML5 form features. I think Chrome will be one of the first browsers to completely support HTML5.

2nd place: Opera
Opera, like Chrome, has a great support as well. Opera has perhaps the most support for the form elements and attributes, as well as a wide variety of the most useful HTML5 features, like video, audio, local storage, and many of the tags. I expect Opera to be one of the early browsers to incorporate HTML5 support. Chrome is still a little better.

3rd place: Firefox
Firefox is a noticeable ways down from Chrome and Opera in its support, but does support some of the most useful features, like the audio, video, local storage, a good amount of the tags, and some of the form features. But Firefox has less support in most of those categories.

4th place: Safari
Really? Apple created this browser. Apple is one of the kings in making cool products, like the computer I'm using right now (iMac), MacBooks, the iPhone, iPod, iPad, you name it. Safari has a little less support than Firefox. It supports vido, audio, local storage, many of the tags, and some of the form features, but, like Firefox, has less support in almost all those categories. I mean, you'd think an Apple program would support more HTML5...

5th place: Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer was the last browser to incorporate any support at all, and is a big work in progress with HTML5 support. It supports audio, video, local storage, a good amount of tags, and a few form features, but way not enough. It has way not caught up with the rest of the major browsers. I see it as the last browser to add full HTML5 support.

There you have it.
